17-1 UTAS NRAS Student Housing - Hobart

This development of 430 NRAS student studio apartments, in conjunction with car parking for 600 cars and related support and retail facilities, occupies a high profile Hobart city location adjacent to the CBD.  Our proposal, in joint venture with BVN, envisaged the development as a new community embedded into and contributing to the life of the city and anchoring the economic and social viability of the top end of Elizabeth Street.  At the same time we sought to provide exemplary quality, energy efficiency, sustainability and site amenity and a design that had relevance to and a relationship with adjoining and adjacent heritage-listed properties.  Cut-aways in the facade allow the new buildings to shape and create new pathways through the site and create view angles back to the existing surrounding urban fabric.
