Our Director, Alex Newman, was awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 2020 to build on his existing extensive knowledge of correctional architecture. He visited some of the world’s best practice prisons in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Greenland and Scotland in 2023. His research involved visiting the prisons themselves, interviewing staff, and speaking with the architects involved. His research findings have been shared with the wider correctional community at the following events:

  • Tasmania National Preventive Mechanism – 2024 Opcat Symposium, 18-19 March, Hobart
  • Future Justice and Corrections Summit, 25-27 March 2024, Sydney
  • Innovative Prison Infrastructure Conference (IPIC) 24-26 April 2024, Istanbul, Türkiye
