One of the first in a new generation of hotel developments serving the greater Hobart area, this project, on a complex site adjacent to the Hobart International Airport, involved significant site works and civil works design, including new road access points and traffic management strategies developed in liaison with specialist traffic engineers. The design of the building itself reflects a range of aeronautical references, from wing flaps and wing struts through aluminium construction to signal flags and light beacons that embed it into its airport location. Even the long roof and cantilevered stairs and canopies are designed to allude to runway and launching images for guests and passersby alike and help to make the building a landmark on the route to and from the airport.
