Community Corrections, a division of the Department of Justice, works with offenders who are on community-based orders to reduce the risk of re-offending and contribute to a safer Tasmania. They provide programs to support offenders and their families to assist with rehabilitation and reintegration into the community. Xsquared Architects worked with the Department to fast track a fitout of the first floor of 75 Liverpool Street to become the new Hobart office of Community Corrections.
The fitout provides a contemporary open office space, executive offices, and friendly and inviting consulting rooms for offenders working through various stages of reform. A large program room provides dedicated training spaces for larger groups and smaller meeting rooms cater well for family groups.
A centrally located skylight brings sunlight into the communal waiting spaces and the space is softened with custom furniture and indoor plants.
The fitout also includes:
- Reception and administration
- New staff and public amenities
- Two large open plan office areas with related support spaces such as storage and utilities/IT room
- Staffroom
Staff enjoyed commencing 2023 in their new space and feedback from visitors is very positive. This new space has assisted Community Corrections to significantly change how the process of assisting offenders is started. It sends a very clear and strong message that Community Corrections is there to help and wants them to succeed.
