We are delighted that our project at 71-73 Hopkins Street Moonah was officially opened today. It’s a new community housing development by Salvation Army Housing, supported by Housing Tasmania and the Select Foundation. The development provides safe and secure housing for women over 55 experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.
The former Salvation Army church and community centre previously on the site were demolished to make way for the new development, which includes a new Salvation Army program office, 21 one- and two- bedroom apartments, off-street parking, and communal gardens. Each apartment has a courtyard or balcony, many with views to kunanyi/Mt Wellington.
Designed so the occupants can ‘age in place’ and to minimise energy consumption, the apartments achieved on average a NatHERS energy rating of 8.2 stars, which is very high for this building type. The external building fabric was chosen for low maintenance and long-term durability.
