500 Women in Property is an initiative of the Property Council of Australia’s Diversity Committees throughout Australia. The program involves a personal commitment from Property Council Members (women and men) to identify and champion women in their organisation or business sphere, who they believe would benefit from further networking and professional development opportunities.
When the initiative was first launched in 2016 the target was for 100 Women in Property to be sponsored in the program each year. The aim was to achieve a significant and sustainable increase in the number of women in senior leadership positions in the property industry. The response to the program was overwhelming. In the first year, 260 women participants and 260 sponsors participated in the program. The following year the cohort grew to 500 participants and 500 sponsors. Consequently, the initiative was rebranded to 500 Women in Property.
Last year, an extraordinary 1,100 nominations from participants and 1,100 sponsors became involved – a tremendous endorsement of the success and importance of this diversity initiative.
50% of the workforce at Xsquared Architets are women, we have five participants in the 2020 program. Naturally COVID-19 has impacted the ability for participants to network as planned, to that end the 2020 program will be extended into 2021.
