State Growth commissioned Xsquared Architects to design a new office fit out at the Harris Building, Burnie to accommodate relocating business units – Business and Trade Tasmania, Mineral Resources Tasmania & Skills Tasmania.
The scope of works involved stripping out the existing State Growth fit out and partially occupying new tenancy on the lower floor consisting of a large training room and boardroom. The previous office layout occupied 15 persons – 7 offices and workstations. The State Growth Tenancy has a fantastic outlook, north facing with views looking directly to Bass Strait. Xsquared took this opportunity to design a new modern open plan office to accommodate 37 staff, consisting of 31 workstations within two open-plan office areas and 5 separate offices, located to the rear of the Tenancy whilst providing great amenity to all staff. The staffroom was also designed to benefit from the great aspect.
A central collaboration breakout hub has also been incorporated into the new working environment for less formal meetings and a general staff breakout space. The works also included finishes selections for the workstations and feature loose furniture to reception, staffroom and collaboration space including feature sculptural acoustic ceiling clouds to the staffroom & within the open office area above the collaboration hub. High performance black acoustic ceiling tiles in conjunction with the suspended ceiling clouds to were selected for the staffroom to achieve a higher level of acoustic performance due to the proximity to the open plan office area.
A quality materials palette was selected for this project including Dekton ultracompact surfaces for the new reception counter and bulkhead, including splashbacks to the kitchenette joinery units. Custom joinery units were fabricated in contrasting black laminate with as Oak accents throughout the fit out. Colour has been introduced throughout the spaces with loose furnishings including the workstation screens for example.
