Sandy Bay Infant School

19-1 Sandy Bay Infant School

New works at Sandy Bay Infant School have created an environment that is fun, functional, hospitable and a showcase for sustainable design: the School has basically been re-invented using a sustainable design blueprint.  Features incorporated in the new works include the removal of all asbestos; use of new materials that are low in VOCs; high levels of thermal insulation; and the use of shading and roof scoops that draw cooler replacement air into the building as warmed air is expelled upwards to provide passive cooling in place of mechanical ventilation.  The School has a refreshed identity, with sustainable design initiatives comprehensively addressed and incorporated into it.  Our ambition was to re-make the School as an exemplar of sustainability, with each of the sustainability features clearly on display as a learning opportunity for the whole school community.
