Xsquared Architects celebrated International Women’s Day 2018 by attending the National Association of Women in Construction Champagne Afternoon Tea. Speaking at the event were Kate Kent and Laura McCusker.
Kate Kent, Executive Director, Communities, Sport & Recreation, Department of Premier & Cabinet discussed the State Government’s 2015-2018 Womens’ Plan and presented the Tasmanian statistics on women’s participation in the workforce and in leadership positions within the Tasmanian Government.
Laura McCusker, Furniture Designer and Maker, as a local member of the construction industry, presented her journey as a woman in trade, from cabinet maker and boat builder to fine furniture maker. Laura’s story was one of being the only woman in her workshop and how her presence changed the workplace dynamic to the benefit of everyone.
For the record 45% of all Xsquared Architects employees are women; 50% of our associates are women (although we have no women directors); and 60% of graduates that we have employed are women. As an aside, 40% of our employees were born overseas. We are proud of this record, although we acknowledge that we can do more.
